In 1936, a gentleman by the name of Tommy Tucker invented an effect called 6 card repeat which was published in a book called "Small but Deadly"  It was published in the Tarbell course with another version by Senator Crandall.  There were two versions developed over the years one which was sleight of hand and another mechanical.  However, they all were based on the same basic routine there was no real logic to the effect as a whole.  Though it is used by many professionals to this day.  There was still more ground to be broken.

Out of Hand, by Richard Osterlind, was marketed in 1987.  It was acknowledged to be the first six card repeat type using a poker hand as a theme.  In it, the magician laments the fact that he dealt himself 5 aces and repeatedly tried to get rid of them.  They keep returning!  Finally, he throws away 4 or 5 of the aces and winds up with a royal straight flush in spades!  The kicker is when they are turned over the cards all have different back designs!

At it's release Out of Hand was acknowledged by card experts everywhere as the first such effect with a logical and surprise ending.  It remained a best seller for many years and appeared on both Richard's Challenge Magic video and on volume 6 of his Mind Mysteries series.

Here in 2010 it is with Richard's kind permission that you now see the following new twist on an old classic!

The magician tells a story about the time he found himself playing poker with three very unusual characters, a counterfeiter, a card cheat and a con artist.  The game was only played with a deck of five cards.  The only way you could play was to cheat.    As the magician tells the story the hands continue to get progressively bigger as he continues to only show five cards even though he is discarding handfuls at a time they continue to appear out of nowhere.  Finishing with an appropriate climax sure to entertain the poker lover in all of us!

This wonderful routine comes complete with a handmade set of Bicycle playing cards and instructional DVD including a surprise knockout finish they will never see coming and is very easy to do!  There is very little sleight of hand. The cards do most of the work for you.  You may choose red or blue Bicycle stock.  This is also available in Jumbo Piatnik cardstock in red or blue as well or you can order both and save even more!

HAPPY CUSTOMERS!

“This is a beautiful piece to perform. The story flows, the handling is truly as easy as Max makes it look, and it is well worth the money.  I highly recommend this trick."
- Mike Vance

“What can I say?  Max has done it again, this time in an outstanding card routine that will leave a lasting impression on your audience.  A Poker Story is easy to do, fun to perform and comes with everything needed to get going right away.  I added A Poker Story to my working parlor show as an opener. I highly recommend this routine for anyone looking for more than a card effect. It is a working piece of magic that in the right hands can be a reputation maker."
- Floyd Collins

“Max has taken a classic card effect and given it a delightfully surprising new twist.  I don't even play poker and I became an instant fan of this trick.  The unpredictable kicker ending will definitely take the audience by surprise."
- Louis Principato

“This is a wonderful routine that'll have people's eyes popping out of their heads.  Max's re-invented gimmick is a HUGE improvement over previous incarnations of the effect.  And truth be told, it is NOT a 6-card repeat, as the sequential moments of astonishment are varied, quite logical and grow in intensity to a fantastic finish!  Highly, highly recommended."
- Gabe Ableson

“There's a lot of magic packed into this simple routine.  Not only do cards magically appear, but the poker hands keep getting better and better.  The finale looks amazing and works brilliantly with Max's suggested patter.  In fact every part of this routine is motivated and makes perfect sense.  I'm looking forward to frying people with this."
- Brian Platt
